Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Diversity, equity and inclusion are important to YoungMoms. We strive to hold and promote a diverse, inclusive and equitable organization where all staff, volunteers, partners and clients feel valued, respected, and heard.

Our DEI commitment is that every young mom will have the tools, resources, and support needed to create a strong foundation for her family.

The center of this commitment is our clients. YoungMoms serves pregnant and parenting young women who face significant cultural, socioeconomic, and relational challenges as they navigate adolescence and parenting simultaneously. Our clients are a diverse group who are dealing with a myriad of issues including single parenthood, poverty, domestic violence, isolation, incomplete education, language barriers, depression, and a general lack of options and opportunities.

  • We are committed to learning, listening, and working collaboratively to understand disparities, address root causes to problems, shape strategies, and align resources to produce meaningful outcomes.

  • We are committed to addressing complex issues and serving as a resource for our clients and their families.

  • We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment to best serve the needs of our clients.

Integral to this commitment is our staff, board, volunteers, and community partners.

Our Staff

YoungMoms is committed to learning, listening, and working collaboratively to understand disparities, address root causes to problems, and shape strategies and align resources to produce meaningful outcomes. We know our clients and our community are best served and more comfortable when the staff they interact with are diverse people and are well-suited to understand and address the complex issues our clients face.

Our Board

The Board of Directors will address complex issues and serve as stewards to our mission and work.  We are committed to representation and diversity on our Board.  We plan to grow our board to 12 members and to increase representation to 25% in the next 3 years. Representation includes members of the community we serve, alumni of our programs, young mothers, and immigrants.

Our Volunteers

YoungMoms will attract and retain volunteers who will provide acts of generosity, resulting in meaningful outcomes for our clients. Volunteers will be committed to learning, listening, and working collaboratively with our staff to best serve the needs of our clients.

Our Partners

YoungMoms will collaborate with our community partners and build strong relationships to address the needs of our clients and the community at large.  In conjunction with our partners, we will create opportunities for people to better understand and relate to those unlike themselves, and experience what we all have in common.
